Mortgage Rates – October 28, 2025

Mortgage rates on average have been steady since a post from President Trump regarding tariff policy in China sent markets tumbling to the tune of 2 trillion dollars, only to rebound upon a subsequent post walking back his stance days later.
This week we are going to be met with a 2 day fed meeting starting Tuesday and markets are optimistic for positive news regarding rate cuts. The optimism is largely coming from recent inflationary data coming in hot along with rising unemployment and tanking consumer confidence. If all of this seems contradictory to how the stock market is behaving, it is.
As a reminder, the government shutdown continues on. Short shutdowns historically have not caused massive swings in the markets, however, this longer closure will surely test that theory.
